Hello,
In a worldwide exclusive, we have the pleasure to announce the first dedicated servers with new SSD hard drives.
Up till now, data is stored in hard drives using a rotation tray. "Hard Disk Drive" (HDD). Now, we are introducing new mass storage technology: the Solid State Drive (SSD). These are flash memory devices on which we store information.
2 direct advantages with SSD in comparison with HDD:
- speed: 22 times faster!
- electric consumption: 18 times less!
We have been testing the SSD for about 10 months. For our servers range, we kept the new Intel SSD disks: X25-M range. These are "multi-level cell NAND" disks, which means that a memory cell can store information. Thanks to this technology, we have disks with a capacity of 80GB and even more soon. It's an excellent start.
2 guarantees with these disks:
- Data is always readable. Some cells can not be recordable any more, but the rest remain readable.
- Despite the fact that some cells are not savable, the capacity of the disk will remain 80GB, and even if writing 100 GB/day for 5 years (equivalent to 10 Mbps for 5 years!!).
- In reality, the disk has a capacity of more than 80GB. Progressively, in its life, some cells can be used to write some new information. The controller designed by Intel, locates these cells and stops using them for writing. However, it can read information. This controller uses all cells regularly and homogeneously to write. The duration of life is then more interesting.
We propose 2 new SSD servers:
EG SSD
------
- 1 Intel Xeon X3360, 4x2.83GHz, 12MB L2, FSB 1333MHz, 45nm
- 8GB of RAM
- SSD disks 2x80GB in RAID-1 Hard X25-M
- 1Gbps network
- with 24 IP fail-over
at £199 +VAT/month
