Hello,
As already announced, we are setting up the different quality of bandwidth that change depending on the offers.
In detail:

Indeed, the market has changed and the needs of our clients as well. Since September, we released the order of more than 2 new servers per month. Now, customers who have important needs in terms of number of servers, order massively at Ovh. For them, we decided to change the rule of 2006 called "101Mbps/client." Indeed, until then, no matter the number of servers at Ovh, the client was entitled to 101Mbps bandwidth for all servers. With many customers who had only 1 server, this rule was perfect and we were able to ensure quality of bandwidth. But with multiple servers, this must change.
Also, we realised that some customers were abusing this rule. Indeed, you just need to create multiple identifiers and order 1 server by id. Then finally have 100Mbps/server. We have learned to detect this kind of infrastructure including through NetFlow to trace each packet that goes through the network. It is then simple to create a network map and consolidate servers working together. In 90% of cases, this kind of customers used to take the risk of getting caught because the offer is cheap. What do we risk? A kimsufi price? £19? It is an acceptable risk. Statistically, we had a lot more abuse on Kimsufi servers than on PRO servers. In general the riskat £19 is taken, not at £49. But also because PRO customers wish to have guarantees and do not play cat and mouse.
With this in mind, we set up in September the Standard SLA for Kimsufi and Premium SLA for PRO, with the possibility to buy up to 500Mbps SLA Business / server, while giving about 2 months to implement the SLA. As we want to remain fully transparent, we give maximum details on what is in our switches and routers, see almost the command to type ... everything is in the task 2495.
The Standard SLA
---------------
The Standard SLA is intended to Kimsufi (the individuals) that do not need guarantees. The client wants a server that works, cheap with all minimum services and no surprises at the end of the month. In terms of bandwidth, we guarantee that 100Mbps can be used in a non-permanent way, i.e not intensive. To determine the permanent and non permanent character, we calculate the bandwidth used "at 95%". This means that the client has the right to burst for 5% of the month, making 36 hours per month. If the customer uses 100Mbps from time to time (the so-called the burst), there is no problem. However, if its use of 100Mbps burst is steady, the bandwidth calculated at 95% will increase. If in average, the customer uses more than 10Mbps, we limit the burst at 10Mbps instead of 100Mbps. Every day we recalculate automatically the bandwidth at 95% of all Kimsufi servers and so if the customer uses again less than 10Mbps, he will be entitled again to burst 100Mbps. And so on the day after.
The Premium SLA
--------------
The Premium SLA enables to get 100Mbps / client and more. Indeed, the customer can have 10 servers and consume 200Mbps. Just the average consumption per server remains up to < 20Mbps. The calculation is as follows:
Number the bandwidth
of
servers per client per server
--------------------------------------------------
1 100Mbps 100Mbps
2 100Mbps 50Mbps
3 100Mbps 33Mbps
4 100Mbps 25Mbps
5 100Mbps 20Mbps
6 120Mbps 20Mbps
7 140Mbps 20Mbps
8 160Mbps 20Mbps
9 180Mbps 20Mbps
10 200Mbps 20Mbps
[...]
max 1Gbps
If you have 10 servers, you can have 1 server that makes 80Mbps and the other 9 that make 10Mbps.
And you don't need to pay extra fee for your servers! It's all included in your server price.
The Business SLA
---------------
The Business SLA enables you to get 100Mbps / server or more (max 500Mbps). These options are payable:
SLA Business 100Mbps / server £149 +VAT/month
SLA Business 200Mbps / server £299 +VAT/month
SLA Business 200Mbps / server £349 +VAT/month
SLA Business VIP 500Mbps / server £890 +VAT/month
These rules may seem complex or complicated. But as soon as we need a lot of bandwidth and quality, technical problems are neither simple nor cheap. Our response to this need takes into account the cost of the server (which does not change), the fact that we can combine the bandwidth (up to 1Gbps / client for now), and the internal traffic of our network is not limited. The client can create an infrastructure based on as many servers they want that is on our 3
datacentre. Who say 3 datacentre, said more security.
For customers who do not have big needs in terms of bandwidth, nothing changes. And those who wish to have much bandwidth, Kimsufi offers are not enough. You have to switch on PRO servers while respecting those rules. Thus, Ovh can be guaranteed and the flow and quality of connection anywhere in Europe.

Octave
