The HG server is the basis for the web hosting and RPS storage, backup at Ovh. We have about 1700 servers of this type in internal use, but in different configurations, totally customizable. Now customers can have the same level of customization that Ovh has for its own needs.
We decided to unveil a part of our internal infrastructure, including watercooling and EcoRooms. We think that the customer is now ready to see how Ovh works inside and since 2004. In 2004, the client was not ready and a simple announcement at the time made us lost a lot of customers. Ecology is now fashion, we can show you what we do at this level since a few years already. For example, our new datacentre RBX-2 competes with some best performers datacentre in terms of PUE (power usage effectiveness). That means that our small RBX-2 is not too bad compared to Google datacentre best ... in the race for limiting wastage energy. In this new competition, our datacentre P19, built in 2004, has the PUE of a 1.70-1.75 (70-75% of the energy consumed is used for something else than servers, such as air conditioning), the Roubaix 1 has the PUE 1.30-1.35 and the new datacentre will officially have 1.15-1.20 CPUE next year (it takes 1 year of operation to announce it officially). Only 15-20% of the energy consumed is wasted in loss related to the operation of transformers and uninterruptible power supply but also in the operation of pumps.

The new HG 2009 site is not perfect yet. Don't hesitate to let us know if you see any bugs

Octave
