Concerns customers with dedicated servers.

Hello,

We completed the implementation of the platform IP load balancing. It remains to perform the tests with a few alphas customers and then test the OCO (OvhCheckOut) with these new customers and finish the course interface Manager and MoM.

Fixed IP, Balancing and Failover
------------------------------

If you have a dedicated server, you have a fixed Ovh IP. You can set up an IP Failover. IP Failover? You can switch IP Failover from one server to another in 3 seconds and a half. If you have 100 sites hosted on IP Failover, you can change the server while keeping the IP Failover and thus increase the computing power of in a flexible way flexible. But this is sometimes insufficient.

By creating IP Load Balancing, Ovh innovates again giving new opportunities for clients. In contrast to appliance solutions or Cisco maps, it is a very special infrastructure, extremely stable and to manage an unlimited number of sessions (over 100 Billion instead of 1 million or less ...).

IP Load Balancing?
-------------------

This is a commonplace IP that you can hang on your dedicated server, as IP Failover. Except that you can hang the same IP Load balancing on multiple servers at the same time and receive traffic in a balanced way on these servers at the same time. You can create a failure tolerant Ovh cluster whith load balancing.

3 years ago, we proposed the load balancing system based on Cisco maps. We quickly exploded maps in terms of simultaneous
connections. And we had to suspend the marketing of supply to new customers. The new system also works with our former clients
who are still using the old system. This will move those customers to the new system and therefore enable them to rent new servers.
The changeover to the new system is mandatory.

For whom?
----------

If you have a PRO server, you can take advantage of IP Load Balancing.

How much does it cost?
------------------

It will be included in the price of servers as IP Failover. For all customers (old and new).

Limits
-----------

We manage 6 servers in parallel, soon 8. If there are requests for more servers in parallel we will study the issue to expand our infrastructure.

IP Load Balancing work with servers in our datacentre 3: Paris 19, Roubaix 1 and Roubaix 2 (that's what took us some time to raise. We use MPLS to transport Ethernet frames on our network).

No Kimsufi (for now). No RPS (for now). No Housing (for now).

How does it work?
-------------------

Ovh assigns you an IP Load Balancing. You hang on your IP servers. As manager, you must declare which servers receive the traffic of this IP.

You can declare a server in your cluster "hard" or "soft".
- If you declare in soft, you must install the OCO on your server. With OCO, the management system IP LB at Ovh know the operational status of your server. If your server is at fault, or something is does not go where you want to remove your server cluster for a few minutes or more (without going into the manager) just change the state of our infrastructure and OCO detects
then suspend the server. The cluster works with N-1 servers remaining.
- If you declare in "hard", below our monitoring does not take into account the statements of OCO. You may even not obliged to install the OCO. All configuration is rigid and it will add and remove servers via the manager.

The OCO (OvhCheckOut) is software developed in-house over 4 years. It is widely used in Ovh in hosting. This is the basic cluster management system on our platform (quiet nights). It runs on more than 2000 servers. It allows the state allocate server via a small TCP requests. It is fully open and manageable. It supports all kinds of internal probes on the server: Apache, qmail, nfs, mysql, php script or a ping. You can even add your own probes. It works in Perl and so on Linux, Windows or FreeBSD.

Alpha
-----

We seek customers who have 2 or more servers (all PRO) and want IP Load Balancing. Just send email to [email] oles@ovh.net [/ email] with the list servers (name + ip) and "ip loadbalancing" in the subject (so I lose no email). Thank you! We'll configures everything and we'll review the email. At the end of testing you can keep the IP.

Beta
----

We will add the interface manager and you will be able to handle your cluster graphically. The OCO will be available on our FTP server with an installation guide (this is already happening, but we will see if there is no change to be made). In 2 weeks.

Not so serious things ...

Regards,

Octave
